Andy Lock is interested in art practice as a tool for research and in research as art practice; in the locality and situatedness of an artist’s knowing and knowledge and in how this manifests in artistic practice. Between 2016 and 2020 Andy’s work took him to Norway, where he was a Research Fellow at the University of Bergen’s Institutt for samtidskunst

Recent artistic research has focused on the themes of silence: the unspoken and the unheard, exploring this constellation of phenomena in multiple settings, including The Museum and familial relationships, as well as in literature and cinema. Andy has worked in collaboration with the Bergen Natural History Museum and in conjunction with the Creative Centre for Fluid territories amongst others. His work has been staged at sites in the UK, Norway, Cyprus and Berlin.

In recent years Andy’s artistic practice has expanded to encompass diverse forms of creative response, including performance, installation, networked online collaborations and various adventures in creative writing and broadcasting (including autofiction, site-writing, verbatim theatre and situated writing).

Andy’s practice also includes photography. He has exhibited at the V&A, London and at Eastman House, Rochester, NY. He holds an MA in Photographic Studies from Westminster University. (www.andylock.org.uk)
