Jo Dixon is a lecturer in Creative Writing and Programme Leader of the BA in Creative Writing in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. Jo writes poetry and flash fiction. Her creative writing practice research explores epiphany in contemporary women’s poetry, experiments in translation, and reading and writing myopia.

Jo’s collection, Purl, was published in 2020 by Shoestring Press, and features on its cover a collagraph print produced as part of her creative practice. Her poems appear in a range of journals and anthologies, including, most recently, an experiment in translation published in The North. Jo works with Dutch Poet, Asha Karami; a translation of Karami’s poem, ‘licht, appears in Modern Poetry in Translation. In summer 2022, Jo and Asha performed a collage of their poetry in Dutch and English at the European Poetry Festival. Netherlands 2022 — European Poetry Festival.

Jo is also writer-in-residence for the British Optical Association Museum at The College of Optometrists, where she is using creative writing practice research to explore the museum’s extensive collection of eye-related items covering the 13th century to the 21st century.
